Noel Misanjo

Managing Partner

Noel Misanjo is a partner at DNC Chambers. He has over 15 years of practice. He represents clients in the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal, High Court of Malawi and subordinate courts. He also appears at arbitrations and administrative tribunals. Noel has extensive experience in handling litigation and providing advisory support on various subjects including employment law, commercial law, mining law, personal injury litigation and debt collection. He also handles matters involving medical negligence, air carriage, family relations and probate.

Prior to joining DNC Chambers, Noel worked for Savjani & Co and Chagwamnjira & Company for 10 and 6 years respectively. Whilst at Chagwamnjira & Co he rose to the positions of Head of Litigation and Managing Counsel. He was a senior associate at Savjani & Co for many years.

Noel is driven by a passion to serve clients effciently. effectively and ethically.
Noel has been the legal advisor of the Netball Association of Malawi for the past five years.
Noel is also a fiction writer and poet. He has published some of his works in various local and international publications.

  • Advised on conflict of laws in a matter where an international client had a claim for a debt of sums of money in the region of $12 million against a Malawian company.
  • Handled a major personal injury claim involving millions of Kwachas in which the claimant had sustained third degree burns in the course of employment at an industrial site.
  • Handled an insurance matter in which a client was claiming the sum of USD 250,000 under an insurance contract.
  • Advised a local client on restructuring process that would otherwise result in numerous unfair dismissal claims.
  • Handled an unfair dismissal claim in which the claimants were claiming millions of Kwachas.
  • Successfully defended an arbitration matter relating to a construction and engineering contract on behalf of an international client.
  • Handled over 5 class actions arising from mining and quarrying activities
  • Represented a major client, its subsidiary and employees in a multi-billion-Kwacha defamation, breach of privacy and loss of business claim.
  • Was part of a team that advised a major local client on a claim for damages for alleged human rights violations in an action commenced in a foreign court. The matter also involved collaborating with international counsel who were handling the case in the foreign jurisdiction.
  • Represented a mining company a judicial review matter involving the cancellation of a mining licence.
  • Handled a matter involving registration of a court order obtained in England, for purposes of enforcement in Malawi.
